The Inkaba yeAfrica 'family' meets every year at scientific workshops, alternatively in Germany and South Africa.  Six (6) such meetings have been held between 2002 and 2009, the last one being in Swaziland, Southern Africa.

Phase II - Continuing Excellence

New partners, both within South Africa (University of the Free State, University of Fort Hare) and outside (Mozambique, Namibia) as well as several new participants (eg. University Pretoria).

New topics have expanded the scope of research to include the vital issue of land use and remediation, geo/biosphere interaction and ore resources.

New opportunities are now open for increased involvement of German universities via a new DFG Priority Programme (SPP 1375) with the theme of passive margin processes in the South Atlantic.

Past Inkaba Workshop : Phase II - 2009

Inkaba yeAfrica's 2009 annual workshop - New Horizons - was held for the first time, as a 2-day parallel scientific session at the 2009 SAGA Biennial Technical Meeting and Exhibition from 13 - 18 September 2009 in Swaziland.  Both the 2007 (Wild Coast) and 2009 (Swaziland)  Workshops took place at SAGA's biennial event.  The next workshop is scheduled for 1-3 November 2010 at GFZ, Potsdam, Germany.  (Note News)

A special session "The Cape Fold Belt" and related topics was held to mark the retirement of Prof. Peter Booth, NMMU (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University) and, to celebrate his contributions to understanding this unique mountain range across southernmost Africa.

A great achievement for the first time since the 2005 meeting, was having thirty-six (36) young potential scientists - all postgraduate students - presenting thirty (30)  posters (of which 13 included 20-min talks and 6 were talks exclusively) as Inkaba yeAfrica data and results (in process), at this workshop.  All in all fourty-four (44) students attended. These meetings stimulate discourse and new ideas, and also aim for reflection to revisit our goals and targets. Major results have been published already in a wide spectrum of widely respected International Journals, ranging from EOS tot the Journal of Geophysical Research (JGR).

Inkaba yeAfrica researchers broadcast their scientific results to the larger global community at well established annual meetings such as those of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the European Geoscience Union (EGU). 

The latter hosted a special session for Inkaba yeAfrica at their 2006 meeting in Vienna, and similarly the South African Geophysical Association (SAGA) in 2007 and 2009.
